Hospital and health system finance and reimbursement is complex and affects access to care in communities across Kansas. The KHA works on behalf of its members to achieve fair and adequate health care funding, and also helps hospitals communicate financial issues to the communities they serve.
The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services released new guidelines used to determine financial eligibility for certain federal programs. Programs using the guidelines include Head Start, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, the National School Lunch Program, the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, and the Children's Health Insurance Program.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services authorized the Recovery Audit Contractor program to identify improper payments in the Medicare and Medicaid programs. In October of 2016, CMS announced new awards for RAC. The RAC for Kansas is Cotiviti, LLC.
