KHA Membership

KHA Membership Categories

The Kansas Hospital Association has four (4) categories of membership:

  • Community Hospitals;
  • Health Care Organizations;
  • Health Insurance Companies; and
  • Associates.

The criterion for meeting the qualifications of each category of membership is defined below. Click on the highlighted links for a list of members within each of the membership categories.

A Community Hospital is a general full-service facility. Members in this category would be the only voting members of KHA and would have full benefits. To qualify, an applicant must:

  • Have a compatible vision/mission with KHA;
  • Treat Medicare and Medicaid patients;
  • Provide treatment to emergency patients, regardless of their condition or ability to pay;
  • Participate in the emergency and trauma system in Kansas;
  • Provide a broad set of medical and surgical services to patients with a wide variety of acute conditions consistent with other members of the association or provide long-term acute, psychiatric or post-acute care services; and/or
  • Be designated as a Critical Access Hospital by Medicare.

Health care systems with hospitals in Kansas are eligible Community Hospitals are members of KHA are given the same set of benefits without the ability to vote. No additional dues will be assessed.

Health Care Organization an organization that provides health care services to Kansans. Members in this category are provided a broad but specified set of benefits without the ability to vote. To be considered in this category, an applicant must:

  • Not qualify as a Community Hospital member;
  • Have a compatible vision/mission with KHA; and be ...
  • A provider of a limited or specialized set of services;
  • A federal, state or military facility;
  • An out-of-state hospital;
  • An adult care home/LTC facility; or
  • Another type of health service provider (clinic, home health, hospice, etc.).

Health Insurance Company an organization that provides health care insurance to Kansans. Members in this category would have a broad but specified set of benefits. Membership in this category would require that the organization:

  • Does not qualify as a Community Hospital or Health Care Organization;
  • Has a compatible vision/mission with KHA; and
  • Is licensed to provide health insurance in the state of Kansas.

Associate an organization that provides goods or services to the health care industry. Members in this category would have a limited set of benefits. Membership in this category would require that the organization:

  • Does not qualify for any other membership category;
  • Has a compatible vision/mission with KHA; and
  • Provides goods or services to KHA members.

Staff of formal networks of Kansas hospitals, for which all eligible Community Hospitals are members of KHA, will be given the same set of benefits as Associate members for no dues.
