Brittney Engel, a charge nurse in the Emergency Department at Stormont Vail Flint Hills Campus, exemplifies leadership, innovation and compassion without holding a formal leadership title. She spearheads evidence-based practice initiatives that streamline care and improve outcomes and has led numerous quality improvement projects, including developing the hospital’s Stroke Program and serving as Stroke Champion using the Get with the Guidelines platform. Additionally, she is establishing a Code Blue and Rapid Response Review Committee and is working toward Level IV Trauma designation in collaboration with the Topeka campus. Engel also supports staff development by precepting students and new grads, assisting with TNCC instruction, organizing skills fairs and creating department-specific competencies.
