House Appropriations Sees Changes to Larned Budget

Goverment Budget 3 (Jan. 28, 2025) – Today, the House Appropriations Committee, chaired by Representative Troy Waymaster (R-Bunker Hill), continued to hear reports from the budget sub-committees. The committee heard report outs today, including those presented by Chairman Dave Buehler (R-Lansing), who reported on the Health Care Stabilization Fund budget and Larned and Osawatomie State Hospitals.

The committee held a lengthy discussion regarding contracting nursing costs and asked several questions about the special committee on contract nursing and the future of Larned State Hospital. The committee saw a motion made by Representative Sean Tarwater (R-Stillwell) to halt contract nursing service as of July 1, 2027, with a possible interim committee to discuss contract nursing and the future of Larned State Hospital. The motion passed on a vote of 12-5.

The committee will continue agency budget discussions throughout the week.
