(Mar. 28, 2024) – Last night, the House of Representatives took action on
House Substitute for House Substitute for Senate Bill 96. The bill saw an amendment to include a compromise between stakeholders going back to the original
House Bill 2785. HB 2785 creates a stand-alone office of early childhood, changes the makeup of the Children's Cabinet to add one legislator, and puts the cabinet back under original authority, it strikes the change infant to teacher ratio in the statute, with that being addressed instead in rules and regulations, and takes out all previous language dealing with fire codes. The newly amended version of the bill passed the House on a vote of
107-10. The bill now goes to the Senate, where there could be a motion to concur, or it could go to a conference committee.
