(March 14, 2023) – Yesterday, the House Taxation committee, chaired by Representative Adam Smith (R-Weskan), held a hearing on two of the major policies passed by the Senate. Senate Bill 169 creates a flat income tax of 4.75 percent for individuals. Senate Bill 248 provides sales tax exemptions on certain food and food ingredients, repeals the state rate reduction for sales of certain food and food ingredients and creates an exemption for the construction or repair of buildings used by human habitation by the Kansas School for the Blind and Deaf.
