(Dec. 17, 2024) – The Legislative Post Audit Committee, chaired by Sen. Caryn Tyson (R-Parker), met yesterday. The committee, which had previously sought an audit on behalf of Rep. Jason Probst (D-Hutchinson) to ensure compliance of hospitals to the state Lay Caregiver Act, has now decided rather than a post audit to seek the introduction of legislation on the topic. The proposed legislation would amend the Lay Caregiver Act in
KSA 65-431 A to require the Kansas Department of Health and Environment to verify each hospital complies with the Lay Caregiver Act, conduct an annual compliance audit, compile results, and report to the health committees annually. The legislation will be introduced during the 2025 state legislative session slated to begin on Jan. 13.
