(April 23, 2025) – Today, the House Select Committee on Government Oversight, chaired by Representative Kristey Williams (R-Augusta), convened. Committee staff and members introduced themselves, approved the rules and discussed the Kansas Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits and federal compliance. Legislative staff reviewed Kansas' ranking compared to other states, the program access index, payment error rates, application processing timeliness, and case procedural error rates. Staff shared letters from the United States Department of Agriculture to the State of Kansas regarding corrective action plans.
The committee also heard from the Kansas Department for Children and Families Deputy Director Tanya Keys. The agency reviewed the current beneficiaries and household averages, as well as the results of fraud prevention and investigation. The agency reviewed the corrective action plans that the agency is operating through.
