HAN Issued on Authorization of Expedited Partner Therapy for Sexually Transmitted Infections
KHAN Logo (Aug. 21, 2026) – Last week, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment issued a Health Alert about the authorization of Expedited Partner Therapy in Kansas. Kansas Substitute for House Bill 2250 authorizes the use of EPT in Kansas effective July 1, 2026. The legislation allows health care providers to prescribe, administer, dispense or otherwise provide antimicrobial drugs to a patient’s sexual partner(s) who has been clinically diagnosed with a qualifying sexually transmitted infection, without first examining the partner, when certain conditions are met. However, EPT is not intended to replace clinic visits.
