(Nov. 7, 2025) – The Kansas Office of Vital Statistics has requested we send a friendly reminder to hospitals. The OVS must follow the strict rules outlined in the Kansas Vital Statistics Act. This law governs the disclosure of vital records, such as birth certificates. KDHE reminds hospitals that printing an unofficial birth certificate from the
OVS website is only allowed for internal hospital use. Unofficial birth certificates, also known as white copies, cannot be issued for any purpose other than the original issuance. If the facility needs to provide the family with proof of birth, they can sign and submit the "Birth Confirmation Letter."
