KHA Hospital Public Funding Survey 2022

Salary and Benefits Surveys (July 28, 2023) – In April, the Kansas Hospital Association distributed the Hospital Public Funding Survey to hospitals for completion. Reflecting activity in the calendar year 2022, survey responses support advocacy efforts and provide information to our members regarding mill levy, sales tax and other public funding.

Out of the 90 Kansas hospitals participating in the survey, 67 percent of the hospitals indicated they received some kind of public support, 45 percent from mill levies (county or district) and 27 percent from sales tax. Only 3 percent received funding from general obligation bonds. Seventeen facilities indicated they received more than one type of public funding.
The reported number of annual mills received varied from two to 40 translating to between $87,000 to $3 million. The reported funding from sales tax ranged from $44,000 to $9.5 million per year.

Detailed results were distributed to participants only. A summary of the results is available on the KHA website.
