KSBHA Continues Limited Pilot of New Form to Expedite Physician Licensure

Kansas Board of Healing Arts 2 (March 6, 2026) – The Kansas State Board of Healing Arts introduced a new Postgraduate Training Year 3 Verification Form in 2025 to help streamline physician licensure for eligible applicants. KSBHA is continuing this pilot in 2026.

Physicians who graduated from medical school after Jan. 1, 2021, must complete three years of postgraduate training to obtain licensure in Kansas. This new form helps expedite the process for physicians in their third year who have secured employment.

Physicians who have secured employment and are currently in their third year of postgraduate training may use the Postgraduate Training Year 3 Verification Form to meet postgraduate training requirements in accordance with K.A.R. 100-6-2.

The new form allows earlier licensure processing for incoming physicians who have secured employment with a hospital, helps reduce onboarding delays and supports workforce needs by accelerating time to practice.

Key Dates and Requirements:

  • The Postgraduate Training Year 3 Verification Form can be completed up to 45 days before the expected completion date of the third year.
  • If this option is used, the physician must ensure the final Postgraduate Training Verification (UA Form #3) and submitted to the board within 30 days of the program's end date, even if a license has already been issued.
  • Failure to submit the final verification may result in disciplinary action.

Hospitals are encouraged to inform eligible residents and recruitment teams about this option to ensure timely licensure and a smooth transition into clinical practice.

The form is available on KSBHA's website (Postgraduate Training Year 3 Verification). For questions, contact Chandni Bhakta, licensing administrator, at (785) 296-0440 or Chandni.Bhakta@ks.gov.
