Perinatal Substance Use: Recognition, Reporting and Supporting – Oct. 28
(Sept. 18, 2026) – Join the Kansas Department of Health and Environment Bureau of Family Health staff for an informative session from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 28, designed to help providers build confidence and strengthen their ability to support perinatal families affected by substance use. Whether you're new to this work or need a refresher, this training offers a valuable opportunity to deepen your understanding of reporting requirements and the support available to perinatal families.
The perinatal period, from pregnancy through 12 months postpartum, can pose unique challenges for families and the professionals who care for them. When substance use is involved, providers may have questions about mandated reporting requirements, including when and how to make a report and how to connect families with appropriate support services.
This training will provide an overview of Kansas-mandated reporting requirements for the perinatal population, explore risk factors for abuse and neglect during the perinatal period and discuss ways providers can support families as they navigate these responsibilities.
Through real-world case examples, participants will have the opportunity to apply what they learn and ask DCF and KDHE representatives questions directly.
