Preparing for Electronic Prior Authorizations

AHA Logo (Oct. 23, 2026) – The American Hospital Association recently launched a new AHA prior authorization webpage featuring resources and tools to help hospitals prepare for upcoming electronic prior authorization requirements taking effect Jan. 1, 2027.

These changes will have important implications for hospital prior authorization workflows, payer interactions and electronic information exchange. Hospitals are encouraged to begin evaluating their current processes and working with their electronic health record vendors to prepare for implementation.
