(Feb. 27, 2026) – The American Hospital Association is pleased to share information about the Richard J. Umbdenstock Next Generation Leadership Scholarship, which honors President Emeritus Rich Umbdenstock and his legacy of advancing health care leadership. This scholarship is open to emerging leaders at AHA member hospitals and health systems, as well as state hospital associations committed to advancing innovative solutions that improve access to care. AHA will award up to five scholarships.

Scholarship recipients participate in the AHA Next Generation Leaders Fellowship, a year-long program that pairs fellows with executive-level mentors and culminates in a capstone project. Awardees supported by the Umbdenstock Scholarship will focus their capstone projects on improving access to care, reflecting the scholarship’s mission to support innovative solutions that strengthen health care delivery.

The Kansas Hospital Association encourages members to nominate rising talent. Help shape the future of health care by nominating high-potential leaders ready to take the next step in their careers.
