The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services published its final rules implementing the anti-discrimination provisions under Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act on May 6, 2024. 

KDHE Launches Statewide Bio-surveillance Initiative
The initiative involves collecting urine samples in the emergency department from patients presenting with suspected drug overdoses. KDHE's laboratory will analyze the de-identified specimens to detect a broader range of substances than those typically tested in hospital laboratories.
