The Other End of the Stethoscope reminds health care professionals of the vital role they play in patients' healing process. This keynote details the experience of a young patient during hospitalization, the care and compassion shown by health care professionals and the importance of health care professionals being safe, secure and appreciated in their role within this sacred field.
Participants will also come away with an understanding of each patient and co-worker's individuality and unique differences and an appreciation for the role every health care employee plays in the healing of patients and their families. The patient and family experience is vital in quality, competent health care.
Marcus Engel, MS, CPXP, CSP, is a certified speaking professional and author renowned for his insights into excellent patient care. His keynote presentation, The Other End of the Stethoscope, has impacted tens of thousands of health care professionals, and his books are widely used in nursing and allied health programs. Despite being blinded and nearly killed by a drunk driver as a college freshman, Marcus emerged from extensive rehab and facial reconstruction with a profound understanding of patient care. He holds degrees from Missouri State University and Columbia University, with an honorary doctorate from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Currently an adjunct professor at the University of Notre Dame, Marcus resides in Orlando, Florida, with his wife and James, his seeing-eye dog. He remains passionate about connecting with health care professionals nationwide.
