(April 2021) – This is a call to all the CMRP's out there about pursuing your Fellow through AHRMM. Usually, I write a "Pat Tabor"… "Andy Rooney" article, but I thought this might be an interesting topic for all.
Once you obtain your CMRP, wait the required two years and meet all the educational criteria; you should pursue getting your Fellow designation from AHRMM. I have had the pleasure of serving on the committee, as well as serving as committee chair, for several years. We have a great group of professionals who read the submissions and work through the issues to bring the best case studies forward for approval and availability to all members throughout the country.
This is an interesting process, and I want to share some insight from my perspective. Included in this article is a Fellow paper rubric for a recent paper. It's blinded so you cannot see the person who wrote the paper; however, it provides a perspective on how we as the committee, evaluate the submission and includes our comments. Collectively, these are gathered by AHRMM, and we review them during a monthly call to determine if the submission meets the required criteria.
The work of the committee is dynamic and fun. We also take the time each month to discuss current issues and use the opportunity as a sounding board for new ideas or questions we have as supply chain professionals. Many times, we learn how different parts of the country have different perspectives on the same issues.
I challenge you all to keep working with your employer in such a way that the Fellow program could be your ultimate goal after you have your CMRP. It is the premier designation for supply chain professionals and the gold standard for our profession.
AHRMM Fellow
The designation of AHRMM Fellow (FAHRMM) recognizes current AHRMM members for reaching the highest level of education and achievement in both the association and in the materials management field. The FAHRMM status is only given to Certified Materials & Resource Professionals (CMRP) active members who have excelled in specific areas and submitted an acceptable, original, unpublished paper on a current aspect of materials or supply chain management.
