(Dec. 17, 2024) – The Legislative Post Audit Committee, which had previously sought an audit on behalf of Rep. Jason Probst (D-Hutchinson) to ensure compliance of hospitals to the state Lay Caregiver Act, has now decided rather than a post audit to seek the introduction of legislation on the topic.

(Nov. 8, 2024) – While the statehouse races have a few elections within a couple of hundred votes, and counties around the state will begin canvassing before finalizing results and sending them to the Secretary of State, it appears that at the state level, the Republicans in both the House and the Senate have added to the existing supermajority. Both chambers are seeing a pick-up overall.

(Oct. 23, 2024) – This week, the Legislative Coordinating Council met to discuss and approve the creation of a 23-member committee that will have five days of meeting between the Nov. 5th elections and before the start of the legislative session in January 2025 to develop a legislative budget based on what agencies request to the Governor.
(June 18, 2024) – Today, the Kansas Legislature met in a 2024 Special Session, called by Governor Laura Kelly, to deal with state tax reform policy. The tax policy is contained in SB 1. The House and Senate then took up the Star Bonds legislation in HB 2001, designed to provide an avenue for the recruitment of the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals.
